Police ID Woman Found Dead in Car That Went Off Cliff in Plainville

Police checking on a damaged guardrail in Plainville Sunday found a vehicle that had gone off a cliff and said the 35-year-old Southington woman inside the vehicle was dead when first responders arrived.

Police have identified her as Denise Santana and said she was the only person in the vehicle.

Police received a report that a guard rail along  Ledge Road was damaged and officers who responded determined that a car had gone off the road and down an steep, rocky embankment.

When officers went down the embankment, they found the vehicle and said Santana was dead when police arrived.

The car Santana was in had dropped 200 feet below the roadway and was 150 feet above the bottom of the embankment at the base of the cliffs, according to firefighters.

Santana was extricated from what crews call a "very steep and challenging terrain."

One Southington firefighter suffered a minor injury to the shoulder, crews said. He has been treated and released from New Britain General Hospital.
