Man Charged With Murder After Ex-Wife's Body is Found in Fairfield Home: PD

A Fairfield man has been charged with murder after his ex-wife's body was found in a home following a domestic dispute on Sunday night.

Officers received a 911 call, which was believed to be about a domestic disturbance, shortly before 9:30 p.m. from a home on Catamount Road.

When police arrived, they said they found a serious domestic assault had taken place inside of the home and took the suspect, later identified as 75-year-old James C. Taylor, of Fairfield, into custody.

Investigators said they later learned that Taylor forced entry into the home with a gun and fired at his ex-wife. A struggle then ensued between Taylor and the woman's son after he heard the disturbance.

During the investigation, officers said they found a woman dead at the scene. Police have identified her as 70-year-old Catherine Taylor.

James Taylor is facing charges including murder, attempted murder, home invasion, burglary, assault and illegal discharge of a firearm. His bond was set at $1,000,000 bond and he is expected to be arraigned in Bridgeport Superior Court on Monday.

The incident remains under investigation.
