A Meriden woman accused of driving under the influence told police she was reading a text message when she hit another car in Southington on Wednesday night, according to police.

Police responded to Meriden-Waterbury Turnrpike and Canal Street around 9 p.m. to investigate a three-vehicle crash with injuries and Traci Creem, 45, of Meriden, said she took her eyes off the road to read a text message and the front end of her vehicle made contact with the back of another vehicle, police said.

Creem is suspected of driving under the influence and was charged with DUI, following too close, use of a handheld mobile device while driving and distracted driving.

She was released on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Bristol Superior Court on Aug. 29.
