Woman Killed in Hartford Hit-and-Run

A 58-year-old woman was struck and killed in a hit-and-run in Hartford, about a block away from Hartford Hospital, around 2 a.m. Saturday.

Police said surveillance video shows the woman walking in a crosswalk, but officers found her lying in the road at the other side of the intersection.

“She went to cross the intersection of Hudson. She just missed getting hit by a car heading southbound. Incredibly just missed her, but unfortunately the car going northbound did get her,” Deputy Hartford Police Chief Brian Foley said.

Witnesses flagged down police to alert them.

Police have not identified the woman, but said she is 58 years old and has no known address. She was transported from the scene to the hospital, where she died, police said.

No one is in custody, but police said they know who the driver is because of cameras on Park Street.

“It’s getting pretty tough to get away with something in these areas that have the cameras,” Foley said.

Investigators at the scene said it appears the driver who hit the woman has a green light at the time of the accident.

“It’s not like this is clear cut where the driver’s at fault for sure,” Foley said. “Looking at the video in the initial investigation there’s some culpability on the pedestrian and the driver at this point.”
