Woman Left Loaded Gun in Southington Restaurant Bathroom: Police

Charges have been filed against a 77-year-old Southington woman who police said left a loaded gun in the bathroom of a Southington restaurant.

Police said the loaded .380 caliber gun was in the women’s bathroom at Geno’s Grille, at 98 Main St., on Saturday.

Police traced the gun back to Carmillia Kimmel, 77, of Southington, who has a valid pistol permit and said she left the gun in the bathroom after getting ill, according to a news release from police.

Kimmel told police she went into the restroom and left the gun on the paper dispenser so it wouldn’t fall on the floor and forgot the gun there when she left the restaurant to get some fresh air, police said.

Kimmel was cooperative throughout the investigation, police said,

She was issued a misdemeanor summons for second-degree reckless endangerment and was released on a $5,000 non-surety bond.

She is scheduled to appear in Bristol Superior Court on June 14.
