Woman Sentenced to Year in Prison in Connection to Heroin Overdose Death

A West Haven woman has been sentenced to a year in prison for her role in a heroin overdose death in Milford in January.

Police arrested Alyssa Jelliffe and Christopher Fogel, of West Haven, and charged them with heroin distribution in January 2015, eight days after a 39-year-old man died in Milford from an apparent heroin overdose, according to officials from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

During the investigation, federal authorities found text messages on the man’s phone that led investigators to believe that Jelliffe and Fogler sold the man $170 worth of heroin on the evening of Jan. 11, 2015, the night before he was found dead.

When police searched the home Jelliffe and Fogel shared, they found 10 bags of heroin and assorted drug paraphernalia, including a digital scale, razor blades and cut straws, authorities said.

Jelliffe and Fogel were arrested on Jan. 16, 2015 and Jelliffe has been detained since February 26, 2016, when her bond was revoked.

On July 15, she pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and to distribute heroin.

Jelliffe has been sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.

U.S. Officials said Fogler pleaded guilty to the same charge and was sentenced on July 19 to 12 months and one day of imprisonment.
