Wilton Teacher Shot and Killed by her Husband: Cops

Connecticut's  Major Crime Squad is investigating after a domestic violence incident ended with a woman dead in New Fairfield Saturday night.

Svetlana Bell, 47, was found shot dead in the kitchen of her 8 Hilltop Road home after her husband Robert Bell called police to report the shooting just after 7:00 p.m.

Robert Bell told police that he and his wife were involved in an altercation causing him to shoot her approximately four times.

Authorities said she suffered gun shot wounds to the chest and was found on the kitchen floor by state police.

Residents said they heard multiple gunshots.

"We heard from other people that shots were fired. We just got home after it happened," said Kevin Murray, who lives near the home.

"It's a quiet neighborhood. You don't even hear of that here," he added.

Svetlana Bell was a music teacher at Cider Mill School in Wilton.

In a statement, Superintendent Gary Richards of Wilton Public Schools said:

"We were deeply saddened to learn of the tragic death of Cider Mill Cider Mill music teacher Svetlana Bell.  Svetlana had been a member of our staff since 2006.  I wanted to let you know that we will have counseling services available Monday as we process the loss of our friend and colleague. At this time we have no information about services, but we will make this known as it becomes available. I know I speak for us all when I say that our thoughts and prayers are with Svetlana’s family."

Meanwhile State Police are investigating the motive. Robert Bell is currently being held by police. He'll face charges of manslaughter and disorderly conduct.

He will appear before a judge at Danbury Superior Court on Monday.
