Woodbridge Woman Killed In Fire Remembered By Family

Hundreds turned out to mourn the death of the 21 year old.

The mother of a New York college student from Woodbridge who died in a fire on Saturday remembered her as the best daughter a mom could have.

On Monday, hundreds of mourners attended the funeral of Eva Block, 21.

The Marist College senior and two others were killed in a fire at an off-campus house in Poughkeepsie, New York.

Kevin Johnson, of New Canaan, and Kerry Fitzsimons, of Commack, New York, also died.

Four others escaped.

Block’s mother, Barbara, told the Connecticut Post that her daughter will live on in her heart.

Block's father, Jeffrey Block, said his daughter wouldn't want her family and friends to be sad.

Mark Conti, Block's boyfriend, said a scholarship is being established at Marist for a student of fashion design, which was Block's major.

Meanwhile, investigators have an idea as to what might have caused the fire to spread so quickly.

Authorities said the structure of the century-old home might have contributed to the speed at which the flames spread.

Fire officials told the Poughkeepsie Journal, the home was purchased from Sears Roebuck and constructed in 1913 and Sears' homes were typically built in such a way that interior walls had open spaces that can act as a chimney during a fire.
