Yard Goats infielder Brendan Rodgers won the Eastern League Player of the Week award, the team announced Monday.
Rodgers had quite an impressive week batting .520 (13 for 25) with 4 doubles, a home run, 6RBI, 3 runs and an .800 slugging percentage.
"It's an honor," Rodgers said about the award. "It's the first time in Double-A and it's awesome."
Rodgers' batting average for the season is now sitting at .300 going into Monday night's game against the Portland Sea Dogs, the Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox.
Rodgers is only 21-years-old and is widely considered the number 1 prospect in the Colorado Rockies' organization.
"It's a great honor, especially this early in the year, when it's cold outside; it's tough to play, and he overcomes it," Yard Goats manager Warren Schaefer said.
"He's a fantastic baseball player. Five-for-five, it was good for him to get off the schneid a little bit. He's had a tough couple weeks. It's great to see him do that (go 5-for-5)."
