Achoo! Allergy Season is Back

Hay fever and allergy season is here. That means thousands of people in Connecticut who might otherwise be able to enjoy the budding flowers and warm spring weather are downright miserable.

“We have maybe 40 to 50 percent of Americans who have some type of allergy,” says Dr. Harini Hosain, an allergist with St. Francis Hospital.

She says she sees an increased number of allergy patients during the spring and the culprit is tree pollen because it’s easily carried by wind to allergy sufferers.

“Both tablets as well as nasal sprays [are available] and then there are a few things you can do at home,” Hosain said.

That includes showering at night to wash pollen from the body, taking early morning walks when pollen counts are at their lowest and keeping house and car windows closed.
