Thunderstorms Leave Behind Damage, Power Outages

Strong and severe storms expected this afternoon

All of the state is under a severe thunderstorm watch until 9 p.m. as storms moved through Wednesday afternoon.

There were reports of damage in West Hartford. Flagg Road and Albany Avenue were closed because power lines are across the road, according to a Facebook post from West Hartford Firefighters Local 1241. 

In Wethersfield, Prospect Street was closed between Wolcott Hill Road and Maple Street because power lines are down.

There were also reports of trees down in Suffield and Seymour.

Eversource responded to hundreds of outages, including more than 650 in Ashford, where power was out for almost 30 percent of customers in town. As of 7 p.m., 429 customers were without power across the state.

Thursday and Friday look drier with temperatures in the 80s.

The month of July has been exceptionally hot and average temperatures for this month are on track to be the warmest ever recorded in the month of July.
