Assault at Tewksbury Dunkin' Donuts Caught on Tape

Caught on camera – a confrontation involving two Tewksbury, Massachusetts, Dunkin' Donuts employees, a customer and her 12-year-old daughter.

The customer, a woman named Sharon from Lawrence who did not want her last name used, said she had gone back to the Dunkin' store on Main Street Sunday morning after getting the wrong doughnut order.

They bought some other food and coffees, but when her daughter Hazel and Hazel’s therapy dog Benji were asked to leave because dogs aren’t allowed inside – Sharon felt she should leave too.

"They never made the muffin, so I said I no longer needed the muffin, that I would go ahead just like a refund for the muffin," Sharon said.

That’s when she said the employees started calling her expletives and accused her of trying to get free food.

“Would you like your doughnuts because you obviously got a refund for them, right?” one employee can be heard asking in the video.

"She throws the whole box of doughnuts at me," Sharon said. "One doughnut hits me in the head, the rest of the doughnuts fall on the floor.”

Sharon and her daughter admit they yelled derogatory things back at the Dunkin' employees but never expected them to get physical with them.

“You’re lucky you’re 12," said one employee to Sharon's daughter, "because I would have popped you in your... mouth!”

But as Sharon’s boyfriend stopped recording to call police, they allege that’s exactly what happened.

Sharon said, “She put her whole fist down my daughter’s mouth, my daughter had her lip all busted, blood was coming out of her mouth everywhere.”

"I was scared because my hair got pulled and I was bleeding from my mouth," Hazel added.

Both Hazel and Sharon ended up at the hospital with various cuts and bruises.

They said they hope the employees won’t be allowed to do this again.

Dunkin Donuts said in a statement, “the safety and well-being of our guests is a top priority, and we expect everyone who enters a Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant will be treated with courtesy and respect... We have spoken with the restaurant’s franchise owner and understand he is currently conducting a thorough investigation of the incident.”

Tewksbury police said they are continuing to investigate the incident, pulling surveillance video and getting witness statements before they determine whether any charges will be filed.
