Bear Shot by Police in Berlin

A black bear roaming in a residential area of Berlin was shot by police on Sunday evening.

A sergeant from the Berlin Police Department responded to a home near the intersection of Lincoln Street and Mooreland Road around 7 p.m. after receiving a call from a resident who said a bear was in a yard and showed signs of being aggressive, according the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

A  DEEP official said the police sergeant had to shoot the bear after it appeared it was going to attack him and the resident.

The bear was euthanized shortly after.

According to experts, when bears are aggressive they are a serious threat to the public.
