The recall includes all made-to-order subs, wraps, and paninis produced by the Kitchen Department upon customer requests.
Big Y was notified that cucumbers it uses as an ingredient option for these items are part of an ongoing investigation of an outbreak involving Bedner Growers, Inc. At least 20 people have been sickened across the country as part of the salmonella outbreak.

Food experts said affected produce may have been washed with water contaminated with salmonella. The FDA is still investigating how cucumbers were tainted at Bedner Growers.
“Food travels long distances through many hands so there's a lot of opportunity for contamination, especially in something like fresh produce,” Dana White, a clinical professor of athletic training and sports medicine, and nutrition consultant at Quinnipiac University, said. “In fresh produce, it's more problematic because you're not cooking it versus a food that's going to be cooked. If it's cooked to the proper temperature, it can kill salmonella.”
Nationally, 26 people have gotten sick from contaminated cucumbers with nine ending up in the hospital.
Dr. Paul Anthony, an infectious disease doctor at Hartford Hospital, said symptoms can appear anywhere from six hours to three days after consumption.
“It usually will go away on its own, but you have two to four days of some diarrhea,” he said. “A lot of people get fevers, some people get some belly pain, nausea.”
According to the FDA, salmonella can be serious for young or elderly people and in rare cases, can cause severe illness like infected aneurysms, endocarditis and arthritis. No illnesses from Big Y purchases have been reported to the agency yet.
Greek salad with sell-through dates from May 23 to May 24 sold at ACME, Kings Food Markets and Balducci's Food Lovers Market were also recalled.
Anyone who bought made-to-order subs, wraps, or paninis at these stores on May 20 or May 21 is urged to return the product or bring a receipt to the place of purchase for a full refund.
