Man Yelled, “Hit the Deck. I've Got a Bomb”: Cops

The bomb hoax happened at a federal building in Hartford.

A North Carolina man has been arrested, accused of making a bomb hoax at the federal building on 135 High St. in Hartford on Friday morning.

Walter Nunley, III, 50, walked near the front entrance of the building around 8:40 a.m., carrying a backpack and shouted “Hit the deck. I’ve got a bomb” three times to security officers in the lobby, according to the criminal complaint.

The building, which houses the IRS as well as other offices, was evacuated briefly as the Hartford bomb squad and the Federal Bureau of Investigation responded.

Federal authorities took Nunley into custody.  He was charged with making a bomb hoax.

No bomb was found and the scene was clear before 11 a.m.

Nunley is detained pending a bond hearing that is scheduled for Tuesday at 2 p.m.
