A person was found dead after a fire at a mobile home in Branford Wednesday, according to fire officials.
Firefighters responded to the call for a fire at the home on Leetes Island Road around 4 p.m.
Ronald Porthier lives across the way and saw the fire as it burned.
"The flames were shooting way up in the air," he said.
The fire at Trailer #6 spread fast and hot, eventually stretching to Portheir's unit and warping the siding.
"It caught everybody by surprise. When I first came out the fire was all over the place. Smoke and everything else," he said.
Authorities have not publicly identified the victim.
