Bristol Police Thwart Burglar

Bristol police have arrested a man accused of trying to burglarize a convenience store early Sunday.

Police say just after midnight an officer was checking the security of the Citgo Gas Station/Convenience Store at 551 Farmington Ave when he spotted a man fleeing from the building. The officer observed the man with a crowbar and gave chase, believing the man was trying to burglarize the establishment.

More officers responded and the suspect was detained, according to police. A K9 officer and his dog found the crowbar under a nearby car. Police say they also found fresh damage to the business suggesting someone attempted to force entry.

The suspect was identified as 53-year-old Juan Gonzales, of no certain address. Gonzales was arrested and charged with third-degree criminal attempt at burglary, sixth-degree larceny, third-degree criminal mischief and possession of burglary tools. He is being held on $40,000 bond and is expected to be arraigned at Bristol Superior Court on Monday.
