Building to Be Torn Down After Stratford Fire

Two buildings at the former Raymark Ball Field in Stratford will have to be torn down after a fire on Sunday.

Firefighters responded to the former ball field just before 5:30 p.m. to investigate reports of a brush fire and found two abandoned buildings that has been used as a concession and maintenance facility on fire.

The buildings, which had been neglected for years, were damaged beyond repair and will most likely be razed, officials said.

Officials said the property has been a concern because of asbestos type dust from the Raymark Company, which previously managed the site, but the fire was not in the area where the waste from Raymark was and there is no concern to the neighboring homes.

The Stratford fire marshal’s office is investigating the fire.
