Bullets Found, Thompson Schools Locked Down

All public schools in the town of Thompson were closed early on Friday following the discovery of bullets in the hallway of Tourtellotte Memorial High School, according to school officials and state police. 

The schools were first locked down as a precaution at 9:30 a..m. after the assistant principal found a magazine with .22 caliber bullets on the floor of the Riverside Drive school, state police said.  The middle school students were released at 11:45 a.m. and the high school students were scheduled to be released at 12:45 p.m.

Tourtellotte High, Mary R. Fisher Elementary and Thompson Middle School are all part of the same complex.

State police searched the high school. No weapon was found, and there were no threats to the school associated with the ammunition found, according to a state police spokesman.  The students were orderly and safely moved from one building to another, school officials said.

Afternoon pre-kindergarten classes were also canceled, according to an alert that went to parents.
