Burglars Smash Window of Historic Church: Police

Police are searching for the two people who threw a rock through the window of a historic church in Brooklyn, Connecticut last week, burglarized it and desecrated the house of worship.

Old Trinity Church was built in 1771 and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The intruders threw a rock through one of the original windows to get inside, police said.

The break-in happened between Aug. 15 and Aug. 22 and it’s not clear from the news release what was stolen.

Old Trinity Church does not hold weekly services and there is no longer an active congregation or services, according to the First Selectmen's office. However, it is still a gathering place that offers some special services for worshipers.

Police are asking anyone with information about the burglary to call State Police in Troop D at 860-779-4900.
