Grinch Takes Light Out of Holiday Display

A Grinch has taken the light out of a New Haven holiday display.

The hundreds of feet of cable used to power a holiday light display at Lighthouse Point Park were stolen Monday night from the Easter Seals' "Fantasy of Lights" fund raiser.

Volunteers from the building trades unions had been working to set up the display for two weeks, but now they are trimming replacement cables and scrambling to re-do work they did the first time.

"All the volunteer work that's done to this, and somebody comes out and steals all this wire? It stinks," Wayne Thaller of North Branford said.

Companies are stepping up and donating more cable.

The display is supposed to open a week from Friday.

People who visit spend $10 a carload. Up to 15,000 carloads are expected to drive through the display.

Easter Seals will have to hire security, which will be paid for with the fund raising money.
