Neighbors in a Meriden neighborhood are on alert after shots fired sometime overnight Monday into Tuesday damaged a car and may have struck a home on Sherman Avenue.
Police said they received a 911 call around 1:15 p.m. Tuesday from someone who reported that their car windows were smashed on Sherman Avenue near Franklin Street.
A police spokesman said it appeared shots were fired into the vehicle.
Investigators on scene were seen inspecting a white Toyota Venza, which had a smashed back windshield. They also appeared to be examining a home that looked like it may have been damaged as well.
Police believe the incident happened within 12 hours of the damage report.
Meriden officials said they were in the area late Monday night for a report of shots fired, but nothing was found at the time.
Neighbors were shaken by the news.

"That bullet could've easily gone through the first floor and affected someone's life. So it's a scary thought," said area resident Katzumy Berru.
The investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
