Shoe Might Have Been a Factor in Crash Into East Hartford Store: PD

Two people, including a child, were hit when a vehicle crashed into the Dollar Tree on School Street in East Hartford Monday afternoon and police said the driver’s shoe might have interfered with her ability to control the pedal.

The sedan crashed through the door of the Dollar Tree at 10 School St. Police said a child was transported to the hospital to be treated for a minor injury. A man who was hit declined treatment.

A woman was also struck by a piece of the door after it flew off from the impact. She also declined treatment.

Fire officials said three people were in the car at the time of the crash and none of them were taken to the hospital.

Investigators said it appears the driver hit the wrong pedal. On Tuesday, they said the driver's flip-flop or sandal might have interfered with her ability to control the pedal.

The building has been deemed unsafe and is closed for the time being, fire officials said.
