Climber Suffers Serious Injuries After Falling Off Southington Cliff

A climber suffered serious injuries after falling off of a cliff in Southington on Friday night.

First responders were called to Ragged Mountain around 8:15 p.m. after getting a call about a male climber who fell off of a cliff.

Fire officials said the climber fell between 20 and 30 feet from the cliff onto rocky ledge. The fall is believed to be the result of gear malfunctioning.

The climber's crew was able to lower him to the ground from the ledge where he landed.

Firefighters carried the man a little over a mile before crews from Berlin and Meriden drove him in their all-terrain vehicles to the LifeStar landing zone at the dam of the Wassel Reservoir, officials said.

He was flown by LifeStar to Hartford Hospital to be treated for serious, but non-life threatening injuries, authorities added.
