Record Snowfall — 4 Feet, 11 Inches

January 2011 has become the snowiest month for Connecticut, breaking the record set in 1945.

Coincidentally, Connecticut had 45 inches in 1945. We already have 59.8 inches this month.

The record for snowiest season was set in 1995-1996 with 115 inches. We're already at 74 for this season. You can see a map of the 24-hour totals here.

Travel was difficult during the early morning hours, with snow falling 3-to-4 inches per hour and leaving behind more than a foot in several towns.

Metro-North suspended travel on the New Haven line because of the storm early on Thursday morning. At 9 a.m., main line service resumed on the New Haven line, but it is operating on a Sunday schedule.

However, the New Haven line 4:34 p.m., 5:34 p.m. and 6:34 p.m. trains from Grand Central will not operate.

At Bradley Airport, 20 percent of flights were canceled. Tweed Airport closed and expects to reopen around noon.

Early Thursday morning, parts of Interstate 95 were closed in Darien, Fairfield, Bridgeport and West Haven. Parts of Interstate 84 Westbound in Tolland and Eastbound in Willington were also closed.

Crashes were reported on 691, Interstate 84, Interstate 91 and 395.

Several schools have closed or will be starting late. You can check them here. There were more than 900 closings and delays as of 8 a.m.
