The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection commissioner will soon be soliciting bids to develop 30 percent of Connecticut's entire energy load from off-shore wind sources.
Democratic Gov. Ned Lamont has signed legislation into law that gives the commissioner 14 days to begin the request for proposals process. Lamont says it will mark the largest authorization by load -- up to 2,000 megawatts -- by any state in the region.
Democratic and Republican proponents say they hope Connecticut will become a central hub for the off-shore wind industry in New England.
Lamont predicts the emerging industry can lead to hundreds of jobs and drive economic growth along the shoreline.
Lamont recently announced a $93 million public-private investment at State Pier in New London to accommodate wind-turbine generator assembly and staging.
