Cooling Centers

As the heat rises, towns across the state are opening cooling centers.

The sweltering heat wave this week is forcing cooling centers to open across the state.
The centers are only open for Wednesday, unless otherwise stated. Call 211, search online or use this list

Avon

Town Hall, 60 West Main St., open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This might change if conditions warrant.

Bloomfield
Alvin B. Wood Human Resources Center, 330 Park Ave., Bloomfield, open Tuesday through Friday, July 19 to 22, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Visitors should bring emergency contact phone numbers, along with any food, medications or other items they might need during the day. Service dogs are welcome.

Bolton

Senior Center, 104 Notch Road, Bolton, open Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4p.m., Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Bentley Memorial Library, 206 Bolton Center Road, Bolton, open Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Bridgeport

The main bus terminal at 710 Water St. will be open as a cooling center, Thursday through Sunday, noon to 6 p.m. each day. The American Red Cross will provide cold water.

Bristol

The Christian Fellowship Center on Prospect Street is open on Fridays from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for dinner and Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. for lunch. The facility is air conditioned on severe heat days.

The Zion Lutheran Soup Kitchen is open for meals Monday through Thursday, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. they are located at 27 Judd Street.

Brookfield

Brookfield Senior Center, 100 Pocono Road, Brookfield, open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m.to 4:30 p.m.

Canton

Community Center, 40 Dyer Ave., 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. If conditions warrant, it might be open later.

Durham

Durham Activity Center, 350 Main St., Thursday and Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please bring your own snacks.

The Durham Town Hall, 30 Townhouse Road, and Durham Library, at 7 Maple St. are also available for cooling centers. Both facilities open at 9 a.m.. The Town Hall closes at 5 p.m. and the library at 9 p.m.

East Haddam
Senior Center, 15 Great Hillwood Road, open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Center might be open later.

East Hartford

Raymond Library, 840 Main St., East Hartford, Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Village Center in Thompsonville, 100 High St., open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday. Use rear entrance. The only pets allowed are service animals.

Glastonbury

Riverfront Community Center is located at 300 Welles St., will open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

On Thursday, the South Windsor Public Library on Sullivan Avenue will serve as a cooling center from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

On Friday, the South Windsor Community Center on Nevers Road is available as a cooling center from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

South Windsor Public Library on Sullivan Avenue is available as a cooling center on Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Centers will not be available during the overnight hours.

Stafford
