Cop Accused of Choking Teenage Student

Incident happened at a Hartford magnet school, police said.

Hartford police have suspended a probationary officer accused of choking a 17-year-old student at a Hartford alternative education facility.

Kevin Brodie is accused of choking and assaulting a student while he was at duty at the school at 245 Locust Street in Hartford, on March 15.

Hartford school officials said the incident happened at an independent school that leases space at the location.

Brodie has been suspended without pay. He joined the Hartford Police Department on Dec. 14, 2009, and graduated from the Police Academy on July 2, 2010. He has been a probationary employee for the last seven and a half months.

Brodie was charged with second-degree strangulation, second-degree unlawful restraint and third-degree assault.

He was released on a written promise to appear and is due in court on March 24, 2011.

The Hartford Police Department's Internal Affairs Division is investigating.
