Wethersfield police might be a step closer to catching the people behind a string of smash-and-grab burglaries to hit at least 15 towns over the past few weeks.
Police responded to the Corner Store, at 500 Silas Dean Highway in Wethersfield, around 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday when the alarm went off.
They found the front door was smashed in and, like in many other cases since November, the burglars got away with the cash register.
Two drawers were missing and the storeowner said they held $150 in cash.
About 20 minutes after the alarm went off, police found a black Toyota 4 Runner matching the description given in previous smash-and-grabs and chased it on Interstates 91 and 84 in Farmington before giving up around exit 37, police said.
In Cheshire, state police found that vehicle at exit 26 of I-84, but no one was inside.
On Tuesday morning, the Toyota is being brought to Wethersfield, where police will begin processing it for any evidence.

This follows a mini-spree on Friday, when stores n East Hartford and Glastonbury were hit.
Police have linked some robberies but are not sure if all are connected.
