Police have an alert neighbor to help thwart a pair of would-be Grinches in South Windsor.
A resident of a condo complex on Amato Drive called police to report suspicious activity around 11 a.m. Thursday. The caller said FedEx had left a package for her neighbor in a common hallway and shortly after the driver left, she saw two men tampering with the package.
The two men took off in a small black car, which was stopped by an officer a short time later. Police determined the men opened the box, but did not take the contents inside.
Brandon Johnny, 20, and Xavier Velazquez, 19, both of East Hartford, were charged with third-degree burglary and criminal attempt to commit sixth-degree larceny.
Both men are scheduled to appear in court Jan. 5.
