Two days after police began a manhunt for a teen’s abductor, the 13-year-old New Haven girl admitted that she made up a story about being kidnapped from her home and assaulted by a stranger.
The girl told investigators that the incident didn't happen after questions arose about her account, New Haven police told the New Haven Register on Wednesday.
The girl's mother reported her missing on Monday.
On Monday, authorities said it appeared that the teen might have been sexually assaulted when she was found wounded and partially clothed in a wooded area of Chamberlain Street about three hours later. City police and FBI agents searched for the man, on ground and by air.
The teen was released from a hospital Wednesday.
Police declined to release other information.
