Truck Driver Flown to Hospital After Crash on I-91 South in Cromwell

The driver of a tractor-trailer was badly injured when another driver hit the truck, sending it down an embankment along Interstate 91 South in Cromwell Tuesday afternoon, according to state police. The highway was at a standstill after the crash.

The truck driver, 36-year-old Diego Rivera, of New Britain, was driving a Mack truck and going south on I-91 near the exit 21 on-ramp when a Chevy Silverado proceeding on the on-ramp crossed onto the road and hit the truck around 2:30 p.m., state police said.

The Silverado spun and hit a guardrail and the Mack truck went down the embankment and flipped over.

Rivera sustained serious injuries and was flown to St. Francis Hospital, state police said. The other driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to Hartford Hospital.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call Troop H at 860-534-1000.
