Part of Route 30 in Tolland is shut down in both directions at Rolling Meadow Drive after a car hit a pole, and the road is expected to be closed for around five hours.
Route 30 is also Crystal Lake Road.
The pole snapped in the crash. While the power in the area runs overhead, the damaged pole goes to underground utilities, which might have been damaged, officials said.
Officials said the vehicle cannot be towed until the power company secures the power.
Crews from the fire department are working with the school system and bus company to walk children away from the area to school buses.
The fire department also called crews from the state Department of Transportation to set up detours and signs to alert motorists of the road closure as well.
No injuries are reported.
The detour is Shenipsit Lake Road or Hunter Road.
