Stratford Woman Killed in Shelton Crash

A 62-year-old Stratford woman was killed in a crash on Route 8 South in Shelton on Thursday morning that shut down the highway for part of the afternoon, according to the state police.

Police said Caroline Walls, 62, of Stratford, was traveling on Route 8 North between the exit 13 on- and off-ramps and when she lost control of her car, went into the median, hit a guardrail and crossed into the southbound lanes, where she hit another car.

Walls was transported to Bridgeport Hospital, where she later died, state police said.

The other driver sustained minor injuries and was brought to St. Vincent's Hospital.

Both sides of the highway were briefly closed while an accident reconstruction team responded to the scene. The southbound side was closed for significantly longer, and traffic was diverted at exit 14 while police investigate the crash.

Police are investigating the crash.
