50 People Displaced After Fire at Apartment Building in Hartford

NBC Universal, Inc.

About 50 people are displaced after a fire at an apartment building on Park Street in Hartford.

Firefighters responded to the building around 4:45 a.m. Thursday and found fire on the third and fourth floors. Residents of around 16 units are displaced, officials said.

The 2-alarm fire was contained to the building and is under control at this time, firefighters said.

No injuries were reported.

The entire apartment building has been determined to be uninhabitable. The fire marshal's office is investigating.

The American Red Cross said they're helping 15 families, including 25 children and 25 adults, as a result of the fire.

Battling fires when temperatures are as cold as they were, around 5 degrees this morning, can present a challenge for firefighters because water can turn to ice.
