Crews Respond to New Haven Fire

Two people including a firefighter had to be checked out after a house fire in New Haven.

Firefighters say the fire started on the second floor of a multi-family home at 631 Dixwell Avenue around 6:00pm.

Everyone got out safely but one resident had to be evaluated for a minor injury.

Also a firefighter had to be treated for possible heat exhaustion.

“It’s the warmest day of the year so far where we’ve had a working fire. So, it’s stressful on the firefighters. Biggest challenge we had deal with today,” says Operations Chief Matthew Marcarelli.

Firefighters say the fire was able to spread to the third floor and they had the fire under control in about an hour.

They are not sure yet of the cause.

For right now, firefighters say the six adults and two children who lived in the building will not be able to return to their apartments.
