Fire has caused extensive damage to a home in West Haven on Monday morning and family and friends of an 88-year-old man who lives there said they haven’t been able to get in touch with him.
The fire caused the roof of the home on Collis Street to cave in on the floor below.
The man’s nephew, who lives next door, said investigators told him that firefighters went into the home, looked around but didn’t see anyone.
Because the ceiling caved in, crews are waiting until the debris cools down to search further, he said.

The man’s dog was loose in the yard, which is unusual, the nephew said.
State police are at the scene, investigating.
No additional information was immediately available.
