Crews assisted five people in returning to shore after getting stuck Saturday night.
Firefighters responded to Long Wharf Drive at around 9 p.m.
Two women, two men and a child were out on a rocky area going fishing, according to New Haven Fire.
The group thought they would be able to walk back but with the weather and high tide coming in, they got stuck out there, crews said.
The fire department said they launched two vessels and used the smaller vessel to take them back to the docks.
No injuries have been reported.
