No Injuries Reported After Large Fire in Waterbury

A large fire damaged a building housing businesses and apartments on Congress Street in Waterbury Thursday morning.

Officials said there are no reports of injuries after a large fire in Waterbury Thursday morning that sent plumes of smoke into the air that were visible for miles.

Crews responded to the fire on Congress Street around 7:30 a.m. and video from earlier this morning showed heavy flames coming from the structure.

There are two businesses on the bottom floor and apartments on the second floor of the building. Fire officials said no residents were inside when they arrived and no injuries are reported.

State police said the fire not affecting traffic along Route 8.
