Crews have been working on fixing a water main break at West Main Street and Judd streets in Waterbury since Friday afternoon and officials hope it will finally be repaired today.
It all started when a car hit a fire hydrant around 3:45 p.m.on Friday, causing minor flooding and leaving residents with extremely low water pressure, police said.
City officials said Waterbury Hospital did not have phone service for 24 hours on Saturday and doctors were reached through their cell phones. That system has since been restiored.
The Waterbury Fire Department was taking some extra precautions since St. Mary's Hospital is also located nearby and sent a tanker truck full of water to be used in case the pressure drops.
Residents call the issue inconvenient, but are relieved crews are working quickly to fix the problem.
"Very low pressure or no pressure at all, yet the city of Waterbury has been working on it," said Kent Goosby.
West Main Street is closed between the intersection of Willow and Sperry streets as workers make the necessary repairs.
Police are searching for the driver who fled.
