Man Killed Making Craigslist Sale: Family

A 40-year-old Cromwell man is dead after being shot in the head while trying to sell a Samsung Tablet in Hartford on Wednesday night, according to police and the victim's family.

Police are calling the death of Felix DeJesus III, 40, of Cromwell, a homicide.

DeJesus' father, Felix DeJesus Jr., said his son was trying to sell an electronic tablet on Craigslist and had arranged to meet with someone who expressed interest in buying.

"This guy kept on calling and calling, so the guy arranged for my son to see him last night and my son said, 'Oh, I'll be back, Dad," Felix DeJesus Jr. said.

Felix DeJesus III, a father of a 1- and 2-year-old, never returned.

When police received a 911 call around 8 p.m. and responded to Allendale Road, they found Felix DeJesus III in his car, suffering from a single gunshot to the head.

"The guy had no nerve, didn't even wait for him to get out of the car. Shot him right in the car," Felix DeJesus Jr.  said.

DeJesus was transported to Hartford Hospital and pronounced dead just before 4 a.m.

"They took my son, my only son. Now his kids are left alone with nobody except for us, that's just not right," his father said.

Major crimes detectives are investigating.

No arrests have been made and police have not said that the shooting happened during a Craigslist transaction.

Police say there is no indication that DeJesus was involved in any criminal activity when he was shot.

Felix's father said his son, a 1992 Cromwell High School graduate, worked at a local hotel. He leaves behind two children and a fiancee.

"My son, I taught him how to be a good man, not a hoodlum in the streets and this guy, whoever killed him, I wish he dropped dead.  I wish somebody finds him and shoots him in the head so he can know how it feels," DeJesus Jr. said.
