Cromwell Police Seek Car Thief

Police in Cromwell are searching for the man who stole a vehicle early Monday morning.

Police said they responded to a home at 3:30 a.m. after a vehicle break-in was reported and officers found several people rummaging through vehicles on West Street.

They tried to flee and an officer was able to get a plate number and determined the car had been stolen from West Street in Wethersfield, police said.

The officer stopped the car, but the driver ran off and into the woods, police said.

A K9 unit was called in to search for the suspect but so far police have been unable to locate anyone.

The owner of the vehicle, who was not aware his car had been stolen, was notified of the incident, police said.

Police said unlocked cars being burglarized or stolen is an ongoing issue in the area.
