CTRides Week Begins and You Can Win Prizes

Connecticut officials are urging commuters to try alternative forms of transportation including trains, buses, car pools and bicycles during a weeklong educational campaign.

Department of Transportation Commissioner James Redeker is kicking off CTRides Week this morning by taking a train into Stamford and meeting Mayor David Martin.

Commuters who pledge to take alternative transportation on ctrides.com will be eligible for prizes. They can also track their trips and earn points that can be redeemed for other prizes, including tickets to shows and sporting events and discounts at retailers and restaurants.

Officials say taking alternative transportation to work leads to a better commute, improved air quality, lower costs for commuters and healthier lifestyles.

More than 36,000 people are signed up for the CTRides program.
