Dad Threatened Coach: Cops

A father from New Fairfield was arrested on Saturday, accused of threatening his son’s football coach.

According to the news release from state police, the coach, Robert McNamara, 56, issued a complaint with state police at 3 p.m. on Saturday, accusing Anthony Ruggiero, 44, of Old Bridge Road in New Fairfield of assaulting him at Bullard-Havens Technical High School, which played Henry Abbott Technical School on Saturday.

McNamara is the assistant coach of Abbott Tech’s football team.

The Connecticut Post reports that Ruggiero, the father of an Abbott Tech football player, is accused of approaching McNamara as he was standing on the sidelines, yelling at him for benching his son, then grabbed his wrists.

Ruggiero was charged with breach of peace in the second degree. He was released on a $1,000 non-surety bond and is due in court on Oct. 16.

State police told the Post that Ruggiero did not give them a statement.
