Double Shooting Investigated

New Haven police are investigating a double shooting that happened in the Fair Haven section of the city early Tuesday at Chatham and Atwater streets, the New Haven Independent reports. A  young man and woman were fired upon while getting into a car, police said. Their injuries are not considered life threatening.  


 Man Does Time for Girlfriend's Murder

A Stamford man has been sentenced to 40 years behind bars for stabbing his former girlfriend to death after a late-night hotel party.  Juan Botello, 22, confessed to stabbing Layla Banks in the service hallway of the Sheraton Hotel on Oct. 13, 2007 after she rejected his efforts to rekindle their romance. He was sentenced Tuesday.


Five Arrested in Strip Club Raid, Club Closed

Meriden Police have closed a strip club and arrested five people on prostitution charges after a raid. Club Laura was raided around 6 p.m. Monday.

David Henderson, 48, of Middlefield, was charged with promoting prostitution and serving liquor without a permit. Alexander Granito, 24, of Waterbury. Was charged with conspiracy/promoting prostitution. Elga Ortiz, 50, of Middletown, was charged with prostitution. Loranna Castro, 43, of Middletown, was charged with prostitution. Laura Kuhl, 41, of Newington, was charged with prostitution.
