Daycare Shut Down Amid Abuse Allegations

Top Flights Sports Center surrendered its day care license before the state could revoke it.

A daycare at a New Milford sports center has been shut down over allegations of child abuse.

On Tuesday, the New Milford Police Department confirmed it was investigating the child care center at Top Flights Sports Center.

“Very alarmed. This was a place I was going to send my daughter,” said Jason Miesionczek, who recently received an email saying his daughter’s summer camp at Top Flight in New Milford was canceled and the entire daycare was temporarily closed.

“I called them to find out what was going on. They said there was an issue with their license and they can’t discuss the details,” Miesionczek said.

He just learned the center was being investigated for possible physical or sexual abuse.

Police told NBC Connecticut an allegation was made against someone associated with the multi-use sports facility.

“We're very concerned about what could be going on there,” Miesionczek said.

Investigators did not release specifics on what could have happened at Top Flight, including who might be under investigation. They only said no one had been arrested, but parents wanted more answers.

“All they are going to send is this email. It’s not good enough. We need to know what’s going on. The public deserves to know what’s going on,” Miesionczek said.

No one at Top Flight would answer questions when NBC Connecticut showed up on Tuesday.

Documents from the Department of Public Health showed the center surrendered its license to run the daycare on June 29, before the state had planned to revoke it.

Officials would not go into detail, but said they found safety and health violations last August and more problems last month dealing with adequate staffing and records.

“Knowing what I know now, yeah I’m glad we didn’t send her there,” Miesionczek said.

He questioned whether his daughter would have been safe at a place that’s closed for the time being and might have been linked to abuse.

The Top Flight Sports Complex is still open. Only the summer camps and childcare programs are canceled.
