Flight delays and cancellations continue for Delta Airlines today, the day after a six-hour power outage at the airline’s headquarters in Atlanta grounded flights worldwide.
Around 250 flights will be canceled and around 200 departures are delayed, which is causing issues at Bradley Airport, where two arrivals and four departures were cancelled.
On Monday, Delta cancelled more than 1,000 flights, including six at Bradley.
One passenger was sent from LaGuardia to Bradley after her flight to Atlanta was cancelled, but the flight from Bradley has also been canceled.
“It’s my first time in the U.S.A., my first visit and I’m very disappointed. I need to get home for work on Wednesday and I can’t get home for work,” Bernadette Lewis, of St. Paul, Antigua, said.
Some travelers expressed frustration by what is happening.
“This is the worst thing that could have happened, this is absolutely awful. They put me in a hotel room that was booked, I just got to the hotel room two hours ago -- had to come back here,” Lily Patterson, of Brattleboro, Vermont, said. “They booked me on a flight I couldn’t get on. I asked the guy to help me. Without telling me, he prints me new tickets back on this flight and now I’m back in this line. I should be in a plane right now.”
Terry Grubbs, of Little Rock, Arkansas, has been traveling for nine hours and is worried about how he’s getting home, especially since he has stops in Raleigh and Atlanta.
“Nervous, so nervous. We’re just looking at the board over here and we just hope for the best,” he said.
Delta is waving rebooking fees until Friday for passengers affected, but if your new flight costs more, you will have to pay the difference.
Delta is investigating to figure out why the network did not switch over to the backup system.
The airline is also providing $200 in travel vouchers to all customers who has flight canceled or experienced a delay of more than three hours.
Customers affected by the outage and who have provided their email address will be contacted and will receive their voucher in seven to 10 business days, according to Delta. Customers who have not been contacted can complete a Customer Care form on www.delta.com/wecare to receive their voucher. All travel must be booked by Aug. 8, 2017.
