Demand for Generators Grows

Companies have lost thousands of dollars of merchandise.

With hundreds of thousands of power outages, many businesses and households are relying on generator power.

Businesses are using them to keep up with the demand for food and ice. Households are using them to power their refrigerators and some lights.

On Tuesday, two men drove up from South Carolina with a trailer filled with generators and sold them on the side of the street. Within 45 minutes, they sold seven Titan 9000RC generators at $1,850 each.

John Robert Bell said the company that he works for had them drive up with the generators.

Some shoreline businesses with no generators have lost thousands of dollars of merchandise because food spoiled.

Anthony Meriano, of Meriano's Bake Shop, had to throw away frozen bread, Danish products, cookie dough and more.

Carmine Carpanzano, of Carpanzano Pizzeria, has thrown out pizza dough, cheese and tomato sauce.
