Derby Gets a Taste of Hollywood

The city of Derby is getting a taste of Hollywood. Hugh Jackman and Mark Wahlberg are rumored to be starring in a new movie set to start shooting in Derby this upcoming February.

The movie will be called “Prisoners” and Antoine Fuqua is directing it. That is the same man who directed the film “Training Day”, starring Denzel Washington.

“That’s pretty exciting,” said Brandi Parana, a Derby resident who just found out about the movie shoot. “I’d like to know where they’re going to be. Maybe I can go and take a peak.”

The movie is looking for 750 extras to appear in the film. Derby City Hall has been flooded with calls, emails, and letters from people asking how they can become an extra in the movie. They have had so much interest, that they are now telling people to wait for an official casting announcement.

At Bella’s Pizza in Derby, customers have been coming in and talking about the movie.

“They’re excited about it,” said Bella’s owner Feizo Zeko. “They’re welcoming them to the area. We’re all excited about it, to get a little commerce going here to.”

One of Zeko’s employees, Andrew Lawlor is hoping to be casted as an extra himself.

“I just signed up and they’re going to call extras back if they need them,” said Lawlor.

Lawlor says that having the chance to appear on the big screen with stars like Wahlberg and Jackman is just too much to pass up.

“Just hearing about all the people who were in the movie, and what they’re doing around here,” explained Lawlor. “It’s right down the street from me, where I live.”
