Dirty Diaper Causes Big Mess

Fire, DEP crews came and a Woodbridge street was closed for an hour.

A dirty diaper brought out fire crews, DEP, closed a road and caused quite a stink in Woodbridge on Sunday.

The unusual emergency started when a firefighter found a suspicious bag on his back porch during an open house, The New Haven Register reports.

Roger Arpaia, a 20-year veteran firefighter, had an open house on Saturday and called his guests, but no one had seen anyone drop anything.

Arpaia was not sure what was insider and called police to inspect the package. A nervous two hours followed as the Fire Department and Department of Environmental Protection arrived and closed part of Center Road for more than an hour, unsure of whether it was something dangerous.

In the end, the suspicious bag was just a dirty diaper.

Someone apparently changed a baby and accidentally dropped the bag containing the dirty diaper, officials told the Register.

“You couldn’t say it smelled like a dirty diaper,” Fire Chief Andrew Esposito told the Register. “You never know. You’ve got to err on the side of caution. He knew that it wasn’t normal to see a little bag wrapped up on his back door.”
